New developments have taken place regarding the FACE Transitional Elementary School rehabilitation project

New developments have taken place regarding the FACE Transitional Elementary School rehabilitation project, particularly regarding the planned move of students to this facility.

FACE transitional elementary school (4835 Christophe-Colomb Street)

Major rehabilitation work continues at the transitional elementary school. Phases I and II are now completed, and phase III focused on internal and external fittings is under way. Due to the scope and heritage status of the project and various issues in the existing building, the Centre de services scolaire de Montréal (CSSDM) must adjust the construction schedule. Students are now expected to attend the transitional elementary school at the start of the 2025 school year.

The project team is hard at work to deliver a high-quality building. Our mission is to always provide a safe and secure learning environment that supports the academic success of all our students. The school located at 4835 Christophe-Colomb Street embodies this goal. This universally accessible building will provide an environment conducive to learning thanks to an excellent sound insulation, a mechanical ventilation system, and more green spaces. The school’s heritage features will also be restored, preserved, and enhanced.

We understand that this update may raise questions and concerns. Rest assured of our full commitment to minimize any impact on the well-being of your children and to ensure a smooth transition despite this change to the timetable.

You can watch a video filmed on site at the end of summer. More updates will be sent in the upcoming months to keep you informed on the progress of work at this school.

FACE transitional high school (4251 Saint-Urbain Street)

Phase I of work consisting of selective interior demolition and inside gutting is now being completed with the team ready to proceed with phase II. As with any project of this scope, the CSSDM must obtain prior authorization from government authorities. We will provide further information about the progress of future work as information becomes available.

FACE elementary and high schools

Special attention continues to be paid to the FACE school as regards to the necessary maintenance and repair work to the heritage masonry on the building’s façades. A reminder that a CSSDM superintendent is assigned to the school full time to ensure appropriate supervision and the safety of building users at all times.

As you know, major work is planned at those schools and will require time to be carried out successfully. We are working in close cooperation with the Quebec Ministry of Education and the Société québécoise des infrastructures (SQI) to continue our progress on these matters.

A meeting with CSSDM representatives will be held at a later date to report on progress and answer your questions.
